Late Laskiainen - Pea
Soup Party - Lake Crabtree, Cary - on Saturday, April 9, 2011, from noon - 3pm
Laskianen is the Finnish word for Shrove Tuesday, which
is also known as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras.
We will meet at the Dogwood Shelter in the
Lake Crabtree Park to
enjoy hot pea soup, special Finnish home-made deserts, beautiful spring
weather, and each other’s company.
·
Coordinator: Tiina Folley. Please let Tiina
know if you can help
and what you can bring from the following list of desserts: home-made Finnish pancakes (lättyjä/lettuja), Fat Tuesday
buns (Laskiais pullat), Runeberg's cupcakes (Runebergin tortut), pulla, coffee
cake
(kuiva kakku) or home-made cookies. Her e-mail is tiina.folley@gmail.com.
·
TFA provides in the cover charge (in addition to
the shelter): peasoup, bread, butter, coffee, and soft drinks.
·
An Evite invitation will be sent to the members.
Directions To Lake Crabtree
Take Exit 285 from
I-40 (Aviation Parkway) and follow
signs toward Morrisville. The entrance to the park is well marked. After you enter the park, follow the narrow
road until you see signs toward the shelters. Proceed
until you see blue and white balloons and
the sign to the Dogwood Shelter.
Marimekko’s Tasaraita shirt
Last year at the Laskiainen Party, we took this
great picture:
:
Let us take another, bigger one this year. So, I ask everybody who has a Marimekko’s Tasaraita shirt to wear it.
If you do not have a Tasaraita, please,
wear some other Finnish shirt if you have, like this shirt Jukka wore last year: “A Finn’s Feelings.”
